However, in addition to this we have Who makes our products? We pride ourselves in supporting 100% home based businesses. When travelling to source products we trade with people direct from their villages. These families set up their own businesses based from home. Without export opportunities such as 3G Teak, these individual families have no income and no way of making a living. We work closely with each of our suppliers, encouraging and supporting product development and providing guidance for bringing quality up to a global market standard. It is an extremely rewarding experience to see these businesses grow and experience the difference our business makes to these peoples lives. NO children are employed to make our products. What are our products made from? There is a true art behind all of our handmade products. 90% of the products we sell are 100% handcrafted and made from natural raw materials. These include bark, leaves, cinnamon, wood, clay, shell etc. What about the Indonesian rainforests? Harvesting teak wood in Indonesia is now regulated by the Forest State Corporation and approved by the Indonesian Government. This ensures that harvesting the wood is maintained at a sustainable level so that depletion of the forests for future generations is safe guarded against. ‘Plantation forests’ are designated areas of land dedicated to regrowing milled timber. As it takes approximately 30 years to grow a mature teak tree, 1/30th of this dedicated land is milled and replanted each year to ensure sustainable growth. |
